I came across an interesting website today where collectors are looking for other collectors of the same items to form groups or share collections or whatnot. It's interesting to see some of the things that people collect. You can click the title for a link to the site, but here's a brief list of some of the more unusual collections:
Arizona tea bottles, Bicycle badges, Blank audio cassette tapes, Business cards, CAT WHISKERS, Company ties, Hotel "Do Not Disturb" signs, Sugar packet wrappers...I just can't get over the cat whiskers. Of course the guy clarifies that these are FOUND ones; he doesn't pull them off of the poor kitties.
Personally, I like tins, peacocks and unique statues. I've recently become a fan of the ceramic artist De Simone (see bowl at bottom of site) & have found that there are other collectors out there who know him.
For those of you looking for a group of fellow like-minded collectors, I highly recommend the website http://www.meetup.com/. You most likely will have to start the group & then wait for people to join. I believe there is a fee to form a group, but it's very small. I joined a stay-at-home-mom meetup & met plenty of other moms starved for social interaction. Isn't the internet great?!
